The sheer number of players on PokerStars makes it easily the most sought after online poker destination in the world. They not only rule the roost when it comes to player volume; their tournaments, VIP program, and security are all top of the range. So it should come as no surprise to hear that their first deposit bonus is one of the strongest you’ll find anywhere. PokerStars will match your first deposit by 100% up to a massive $600. To become eligible for the deal you’ll need to enter PokerStars Bonus Code STARS600 when making your first deposit. Working off this sizable bonus should keep you busy for a while, but once you’re done there are plenty of other promotions to look out for. Reload bonuses and Frequent Player tournaments are a just a couple of the offers routinely provided by PokerStars.
What really separates the PokerStars bonus code from the thousands of alternatives is that it actually extends beyond your first deposit. If you don’t have the funds to lay down the full $600 in one go then you’ve still got an opportunity squeeze every last drop of value out of the deal. Everything you deposit in your first three deposits will count towards to the initial PokerStars bonus, so long as you make them all within 90 days. The deal is even more lenient when it comes to the expiry date. Some sites force you to grind out the whole bonus in a month or two, making it practically impossible for low stakes player to generate any kind of profit. At PokerStars you have six months from each deposit to clear the money and earn the bonus.
How you actually go about clearing the cash is both simple and complicated. In practice, it amounts to little more than playing as many poker hands as you can at the stakes you feel most comfortable with. However, the dual nature of the PokerStars points system means you might want to adjust your game slightly in order to clear the bonus as quickly as possible.
To start with, there are two different kinds of points at PokerStars – VIP Player Points (VPPs) and Frequent Player Points (FPPs). FPPs are generated depending on the number of VPPs you earn and are used for entering points tournaments and buying clothing in the confusingly named VIP Store. As far as your first deposit bonus is concerned they have no impact at all, you only need to concentrate on the VPPs.
To clear the first deposit bonus you need to capture 17 times your deposit amount in VPPs. If you were to plump for the full $600 then you’d have to earn 10,200 VPPs for the whole thing. If six months isn’t long enough for you to reach that target then you can still enjoy a good chunk of the bonus cash. The money is released in $10 increments, so you’ll receive a tiny chunk every 170 VPPs.
Things start to get a little convoluted when you analyse just how VPPs are calculated. The number of points awarded is always based on the rake generated, but there are different parameters and factors depending on what type of table you’re at. First up there’s the Standard Table rules. According to PokerStars these cover everything not covered by the other rules, which basically amounts to Full Ring No Limit tables for low stakes and above, as well as Full Ring tables for every other game. Under the Standard Table guidelines a first VPP is generated when the rake reaches $0.40 for fixed limit stakes of $1/$2 and below as well as No Limit and Pot Limit games with blinds of $1/$2 and lower. For every other kind of game (excluding those that fall under the second set of rules), the rake must reach $1 for 1 VPP.
A hand can generate a second VPP if the rake reaches $3.00 in total. On 6-max tables a second point appears at $2.00 of rake, but seeing as almost all 6-max tables are covered under the other VPP system this will be a pretty rare occurrence. In order to earn VPPs under the Standard Table rules you need to have played in the hand.
To aid clarity the second VPP method isn’t given a name. It applies to the following kinds of tables: 1-on-1, Full Ring Limit up to $0.25/$0.50, and Full Ring No-Limit tables up to $0.05/$0.10. In addition, all 6-max tables for the following games are included in the second system: No Limit Hold‘em, Pot Limit Hold‘em, Pot Limit Omaha, Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo, and Limit games up to $0.25/$0.50.
In this variant the number of VPPs awarded depends on the total rake collected as well as the number of players at the table. The calculations are pretty straightforward, simply 5 VPPs per $1 of rake. However, this time every player who was dealt cards receives a share of the points. The points are split evenly between every player, so tight players may want to stick to 6-max while clearing their bonus. You can also generate points by playing in tournaments and Sit and Go’s. Just as in the second method, 5 VPPs are awarded for every $1 paid in tournament fees.
